Activities in Winter

The holiday region Saalachtal Salzburg offers everything you need for a perfect holiday. The ski resorts in Heutal Unken, Almenwelt Lofer and the  Steinplatte await you. In Unken, and in Salzburg Saalachtal see beautiful nature, majestic mountain peaks, perfectly groomed slopes and clear mountain air.

Skiing & Snowboarding

In the picturesque skiing resort Heutal in Unken you can choose between perfect on piste skiing or powder snow skiing.
The family resort Almenwelt Lofer offers 46 km of perfect slopes. 35 km have artificial snow production facilities,
which guarantee you to ski down to the village through the whole winter season.
The ski resort Steinplatte in Waidring offers 15 various slopes with a length of 36 km. The area is between 1.100 m and 1.900 m high.
For snowboarders and freestylers we offer the new Mellow Snow Park L.A. up on Almenwelt Lofer with 18 rails and jumps or enjoy the funpark at the Steinplatte.

Cross country skiing

Along the Salzburger Saalachtal you can find a large number of cross country tracks. It is the perfect alternative to walking and to enjoy the picturesque sights of our local area.
In Heutal - 1.000 meters above sea level - the area offers an amazing 50 km of the best tracks you can find for cross country skiing.
From the Heutal you can also get to Wildalm, Moarlack or Winkelmoos Alm and then further on to Steinplatte. Down the valley at Lofer/St. Martin there are 37 km of cross-country tracks and up on the Almenwelt Lofer there are 2 to 4 km of tracks.

Winter walks

Winter walks are a perfect and romantic alternative to skiing and cross country skiing. Enjoy the winter surroundings, get your snow shoes on and off you go.

Ice skating

Glide along the ice and skate a few rounds under the open sky. It's great fun for the whole family.

Tobogganing

Tobogganing is fun for the whole family. Enjoy this sport and enjoy the idyllic scenery. Up on the Heutal there are 3 natural runs (Hochalmweg, Mostbuschen and Moarlack). In Lofer is a floodlit run (Knappenstadlbahn) and in St. Martin there is a natural run down from Maria Kirchental.

Horse-drawn sleigh rides

Sitting on a comfortable horse-drawn sleigh, packed up warm, you can enjoy the winter sun in the beautiful winter scenery.

Sports and leisure centre

Unken offers a lovely indoor swimming pool with a water temperature of 29° Celsius and a room temperature of 32° Celsius. It's fun for the whole family!

Curling

Curling is a traditional winter sport in the Salzburger Land. Everyone is welcome to try their hand at this sport and there are local people to show you how. Rental is possible.
